Cool things for the home

Water Me When I Tilt vase. The right amount of cross between design and functionality. As the water in the vase evaporates, the vase will tilt downwards, reminding you to water your plants =) Nick Foley's Pear Tree LEDs. The pears can be plucked from the trees! And they're rechargeable. Once the LEDs in the pear run out of battery, just stick them back onto the branch to charge =) Such fun, to make up for the lack of pickable fruit in Singapore.

Weasley Clock

This thing I found on craftster should be pretty exciting for any HP fan...(note the 7 hands, and various activities like "hospital", "prison") Read the entire post about the weasley clock over here.

Look at what I had for breakfast this morning! Plain omelette, raisin pancakes and fresh kiwi!

Really Cool Sandwiches

Got these in an email from my mom. Cool huh! Didn't post the whole set though, ask me for it if you want to see the rest.

Flight of the Conchords

Apart from the searchable youtube videos by this comedy duo from New Zealand (just enter "Flight of the Conchords" into the search box), I found a whole load of Flight of the Conchords videos from their HBO site. Bret Mckenzie and Jemaine Clement make up this duo. Bret, the shorter skinnier one, was a hobbit in LOTR and is also founding member of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra. Jemaine is the bigger one with the sexy low voice and emo glasses.

Here's what the HBO site had to say about their show.

Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.

Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) -- but not much else.

This particular video is from episode 8 and it's called "Foux Da Fa Fa".

And this next one is from episode 3.It's called "Hip-Hopopotamus vs. The Rhymenocerous".

Cookie Monster Cupcakes!! *AHAKCHOMP*

This was my last bake-off with Evelyn before she flew off to Cornell without me. We made cookie monster cupcakes! The most outrageous part was added bright blue colour dye to the initially white icing, to turn it into a most outrageous shade of cookie monster blue. We used white icing for the irises, chocolate chips for the pupils and halved oreo cookies for the cheesy grins.

and you know what? This is madegg's 100th post! One-freaking-hundred!! YAY!!!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Well, it seems like everyone felt like cooking today. My brother made his crab cakes, my aunt cooked dong po rou (i don't know what it is, but i like it!), and my other aunt made orange-chocolate marble cake. I love swirly cakes, somehow swirls just look so much prettier on cake! And after yesterday's cedele cupcake, I felt like having more orange icing, so the less prettily swirled cupcakes got a layer =) This must be the season for fantastic oranges or something, it's super sweet and just-slightly-tart, my favourite kind!

And I was productive too. I made myself a new back-to-school pencil case with cute fabric from my grandma's scrap stash =) I think the lining's really cute, haha. Note to anyone doing this for the first time, don't sew too close to the zipper, because although it looks really neat, the fabric will get caught when zipping and unzipping. I had to rip out my very first attempt due to this =(

DIY Home Makeovers! - Part Deux

Last Saturday: We've added on a bit more to Chan's wall as you can see. We also painted the wall opposite in cream, but haven't painted any pictures yet. Well, this is far from over! Lots more things that we'd like to add in, so keep an eye out for this project =)

Lemon and Mascarpone Tart

Backtracking: Our so-so Lemon and Mascarpone tarts that we made last Thursday. I forgot to turn down the oven temp, so our tarts weren't as custardy as expected =( I liked the citrusy flavour though, but Maddy didn't, not as much. Well, it's just here for the record, haha.

Here's Maddy terrorizing my birds. You can see the poor dears huddling in the farthest corner.

O PLUS D Greeting Cards (p.s. we're still alive)

YES WE ARE STILL ALIVE!!! (We just happen to be overloaded with lots of compulsory pre-uni camps and related crap, and are just too tired (and maybe too shocked by "the real world") to blog.)

Go over to O PLUS D to take a look at their greeting cards, which come with just the right amount of swearing and humour.

Meanwhile, I'll have to recover from the past days' necessary socialising, friend-making, small-talk and ridiculous orientation games. I still have to get over the fact that absolutely bimbotic whiney airheads DO exist, and continue praying for at least a couple of intelligent friends with some kind of depth and some sense of humour to tide me over the next 4 years. You'd think that being accepted into the double degree program would require at least some amount of intelligence, but nope, it seems that's not always the case. You'd think that these people make up for their utter bimboticness by being reasonably chio. But no again, they are stupid AND ugly AND sound like a screechy broken record player... Irritants who try to boost their egos by name-dropping and making sure everyone knows that they are mambo regulars. Oh god :(

I'm such a bitch. :(
