The Dough-Nu-Matic

An automated mini-doughnut making machine!! just how cool is this, a bottomless supply of sugar-glazed anytime you want it. only takes a minute for each doughnut. and the flipping mechanism is brilliant. i LOVE sugar-glazed doughnuts! so what's your favourite flavour?

not to ruin the party right now, but watching the vid, it seems a hassle to clean the machine after. but what the heck. here's some doughnuts to tempt you with.

Hairloom and Caramel

Hairloom and Caramel salon-cafe-home at shaw towers, an eclectic cafe set up by 4 men. Quite difficult to not give off the gay vibe, which they do, very strongly. All cupcakes baked by one of the guys too, who learnt to bake from his mother and grandmother. Initially i thought it was just another one of those pretty cafes set up by people who frequently read Decor8 and OhJoy!, one of those people who go around looking for eclectic furniture in an effort to give their cafe that mish-mash look which is so popular and so pretty but kinda unoriginal now. But after visiting their blog, i'm even more impressed with them! Turns out they did source for old furniture, but more than just being fortunate (or rich) enough to find all those pretty chairs, they actually had them upholstered and repainted! Kudos for the taste and vision then =) Don't have a photo of the chairs, but you can see the before and after at their website. Amazing, even though i know they probably had it done, but still, amazing =)

Cupcakes all handmade by that one guy in a pink tshirt. They do lunch and dinner too. And pricey haircuts at the adjoining salon. The guys painted the wall behind themselves!THE BEST tiramisu to be had there, we've got to go sometime =)=) Smooth, creamy and baileys-soaked, so glad i didn't pick a cupcake. Although the cupcakes were really gorgeous too. Most photos from Aramia. Thanks, hope you don't mind.

PS. Another giant rainbow! Photo is unedited this time, cos it wouldn't have been an improvement, haha. But this felt really close this time, because I was on the ground level, almost as if walking further front, you'd walk yourself closer to the rainbow. Outside raffles city, so pretty! =)

Happy Birthday Maddy!

Happy 20th! =)=) (And sorry this is coming so late, was supposed to be posted on monday) i feel like i have so much to say to you, but i'm just terrible at expressing myself. So i tell myself that you know what i mean anyway, and letting you know bit by bit every once in a while will have to do =) Thanks for all these years of friendship, and for always being there. I don't think there can ever be anyone else like you again =)
Outside Nabin's!
Chan's good ol' 'tourist' camera. Love the twisty screen.
The camera makes another appearance!
It's everywhere!!
Yummy food at reasonable prices! And superb service, really. Please go and try.
Arabian xiao long baos.
Super yummy butter raisin cake with dates and honey. we all loved it, scraped up every single bite. And it came with the set lunch, which was only $9.90!
Bern's corn chocolate from Hokkaido. Cute wrapper right!
Walking towards bugis, we found maki squarepatch! Had no idea it was at bali lane. So, it continues on the recurring theme of pretty stairways.
I love this poster, everything about it.

Haji Lane, Revisited

Impromptu visit to haji lane today! Cos we were in arab st buying fabric for my float costumes, and it went so quickly we decided to just go see while we were in the area. And goodness! It's so much better than the last time we went! Really a lot more shops and a lot cooler! Thing is, they honestly weren't there back then, but they look so established now -_- Just moved in? No idea, but it was really fun. So the theme for today is (occasionally bad) graffiti and painted staircases. Nobody seems to be able to leave their stairways alone! Loads of photos ahead, be warned.

*Update: Wahh, just found out that liyong has a friend who owns a shop in haji lane! Sells second hand levis imported from the us. So cool!

First, lunch at Victory. Hurhur, secret info told us that this was better than zamzam's, and goodness, the difference is really really huge! So folks, next time don't be cheated, way nicer murtabak just next door! Didn't try the other dishes though, so i can't really say. But murtabak, victory confirm win! Lol, the last sentence sounds really funny, like, bad grasp of english.

Zamzam's:
Victory:mutton murtabak! So matchy matchy! some catering business.Lian he zao baoThey meant it, he WAS scary!! Scary and freaky!Cos oversized shades are in.Oh yes, and vintage telephones seem to be a must-have in every store. The last three phones are actually from the same store. Some strange vintage toy/bag store thing.
Maddy making a run for it.Can't believe they're seriously trying to sell this! Just ice-cream sticks glued together like some primary sch art project?? But cute measuring tape headband below. My favourite store in the whole lane, soon lee. Has clothes that i actually wanna buy! And my grandma's got one of these machines too!! Bet all those books haven't been read though, they look to be in too good a condition. Such pretentious titles, i like, hahahah.
And lastly, parkview square gets a revisit too, for old times' sake.Theme of the day:
