Scottish Musical Groups

This post was originally gonna be an introduction to the cute Scottish band The Fratellis, but upon further research on Wikipedia, I came across the list for "Scottish musical groups" and realised, to my amazement, that I recognised quite a number of the bands on the list! I've also come to the conclusion that Scottish groups (the ones that I know of, that is) can be pretty split up into 2 musical genres -- infectious head-bobbing poprock and spacey ambient electronic.

I'm putting up the imeem playlists I created here because of the feedback I've recently received that the youtube videos take too darn long to load. Alot of the imeem songs are 30-second samples, so if you like a particular song, go search for it on YouTube.

First up, musical samples from the infectious head-bobbing poprock genre (Wikipedia also calls this "post-punk revival" *nods*).I really like Chelsea Dagger and Whistle for the Choir.

Next up, musical samples from the spacey ambient electronic genre. And no, Boards of Canada is NOT from Canada. *points to blogpost title...Scottish!* Check out their myspace profile for more music. Very trippy stuff that works better with headphones.

Fruity Tooty You Tea Party

Today was a complete mad rush, but an exhilarating one for that matter. Woke up early to make the necessary preparations..

I'm koping an apple dice from the applestew, which turned out a bit too sweet even though I already cut back on the sugar. Ignore the tatty old OBS tee, and check out the mole on my neck (right below my ear)! I only noticed its existence about a week or so ago.

We scooped the applestew into little cupcake containers that had strawberries on them (keeping up with the fruity tooty theme). Then we topped them off with yummy breadcrumby crumble. We were worried that there would not be enough ingredients to fill the container, but the portions turned out all right in the end. Due to unintentional negligence, some of the crumble-tops burnt while baking in the oven. But we managed to save them with a fork and some nifty fork handling skills.

Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies, made prior to the mad rush, from a modification of Eggy's recipe. Evelyn made her thumbprints, quite possibly with her thumbprints.

Vanilla mini-cupcakes from Evelyn's tried-and-tested recipe, baking in the oven. They look so perfect and cute here.

Not so cute here while cooling on the wire rack...Some of the cupcakes overflowed their liners, some exploded..

...but luckily, we have frosting to cover up cupcake mishaps. The frosting tasted slightly odd but the taste was masked by the cupcake itself.

For the lunchbreak, we whipped up Mushroom and Ham Pasta, with macaroni, campbell's Mushroom Potage and ham from the fridge.

We thought the scones were plain, and the apple crumble, too sweet. But strangely, no one complained and everyone loved the scones. The downside was that the chocolate wouldn't melt in the burner...

Then people started trickling in...Iris was too early. Everyone was sporting and came in their respective fruits! (Iris as Grapes, Amy as Banana, Beatrice as Mangosteen, Xinqin as Watermelon, Evelyn chew as Strawberry, Evelyn as Dragonfruit and Me as Durian) Sarah was blur and came dressed as A fruit, instead of YOUR fruit. So she wore an orangey top and cherry earrings.

It was a fun day...Talking about everything from dog menstruations to SMU frustrations.

Before I forget, these were the invites we sent out! Beautifully coloured, eh?

Then we posted them in urgent-looking envelopes, with typed labels (with full names) for a nice scare. They were supposed to look like they were posted by NUS or something...

Rose and Radish

Look! Apple cosies! From Rose and Radish. Isn't this so absolutely adorable and useless?? Rose and Radish is a new online store I just discovered, and they have so many pretty things! EXPENSIVE pretty things, haha. And things that are so unnecessary. But so, so undeniably pretty!The Forever Cupcake, made of plaster! Haha, great for anniversaries and loved ones so long as they don't try to eat it.
Gorgeous cup-two-spoon set. I love love love the print, it's so pretty! It's a little odd though, I don't really get how the bigger one works. Wouldn't it be a really big spoon?Nicolette Brunklaus lampshade that illuminates the pattern painted on the inside. Brilliant!This ecofriendly cardboard Green Cradle sure looks DIY. It's flame retardant apparently, easy to assemble, and meets the EU's safety and performance standards for cribs and cradles O_o Doubt it's drool-proof though, I mean, being cardboard and all. Not something I'd ever get I think, but a cute idea and storage-friendly.Mixko Delight Original Light. Normally I don't really go in for all this butterfly stuff because I always think it's so typical, but this is really pretty.Cherry Candles with wicks that double as stems.Mad Hatters! The little legs are so cute. I like how the first hat looks like those English policemen helmets =)Tealight holder that casts tree shadowsWooden Cushions. You can't see it, but both my eyebrows are raised.
Really cool wallpaper, both designed by Karen Combs. Each sheet is handpainted and handscreened. Gah, can you imagine handpainting sheets and sheets of this stuff?

Pretty illustrations by Atelier Lzc. France. Starry Farm, Flowered Sky, and Travelling Car. Atelier Lzc. has a lot more beautiful prints, all with the same slightly whimsical feel. Placemats, wallpapers, ornaments, etc.

Man, that was a long post! There's a lot more stuff at Rose and Radish that are quite pretty too, but these are the prettier/more remarkable ones. Chan, there are some cool kitchenware and vases that you might wanna take look at, cool designs. Looking at pretty things makes me happy =)

I'm not one of those girls who spend their entire life planning their perfect-dream-wedding but I have to admit...I adore this wedding. I love her wedding dress and his floral ties! Enchanting fairy lights, laidback bango players and bright unconventional bouquets. It's so magical.
